Open Access Policies

Open Access Policies at Deep Science Publisher

International Journal of Applied Resilience and Sustainability (IJARS) published by Deep Science Publisher operates under the fully open access model, allowing unrestricted access to all research articles published. As an OJS-based journal, we work for open and transparent scholarly communication, eliminating financial and technical barriers for everyone who would like to read, share, or publish scientific knowledge. We are committed to this because we believe that research is nothing if it is not accessible to the global community on which it has an impact.

All the articles published by Deep Science Publisher are freely accessible to all, immediately upon publication. This means the following:

  • There are no author charges in the journal.
  • Full texts of articles are available free, with free access and download.
  • Open access publication is funded by authors or their institutes (or funders) through the payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted articles.
  • The published article may be reused by content providers with proper attribution to the original work.

Permissions

No need for special permission to reproduce all or part of articles published in Deep Science Publisher, including figures and tables. For open access articles published under an exclusive license, Creative Common CC BY license, any copy of that article may be redistributed and reused without permission provided that the original article is clearly cited. The republication of an article is not endorsement by the authors or Deep Science Publisher. Additionally, authors do not need to obtain a special license in order to include their research articles and other scientific work in repositories. This policy applies to all versions of a paper, including the submission, acceptance and published version.

Copyright and Licensing

Copyright of all articles published in Deep Science Publisher journals belongs to the authors. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. The article can be reissued and quoted as expressing the first published paper. Such conditions maximize the use and exposure of the work in order to guarantee that it is correctly credited.

Digital Archiving

The Open Journal Systems LOCKSS system is an inter-library distributed archiving system. Deep Science Publisher Journals apply this system in order to achieve long term archiving.

Understanding Open Access Publishing

Open access is a term used to describe literature that makes scholarly research freely available over the internet, without financial or other barriers. Contrary to subscription journals, open access journals can be read and downloaded by anyone with an Internet connection immediately upon publication. By this method, paywalls and subscription requirements are not an issue for those within academia. By making publicly funded research studies openly available, the open access phenomenon revolutionizes scholarly communication [1,2]. Traditional publishers’ paywalls not only restrict access to important research but also inhibit the dissemination and use of valuable research once it has already been completed.

Advantages of Open Access for Authors

Increased Citations and Global Reach

Because open-access articles are accessible to more people, they are also cited more frequently than articles that sit behind subscription paywalls [2,3]. When people around the globe can read articles on a university website regardless of their institutional affiliation, citation and cooperation levels increase significantly. Such wider visibility speeds up finding partners for scientific discovery and stimulates cross-border collaborations.

Cost Reduction for Libraries and Institutions

Open access does away with the high price of subscriptions, which can seriously bite into library budgets at every level [4]. Instead of continuing to pay subscription fees for this journal package, funds can be given back to research activities and the development of infrastructures within institutions. This economic efficiency translates to individual researchers, who are not precluded from access to literature beyond the scope of their institution’s subscriptions. Breaking down these barriers lowers the cost of doing research and enhances productivity in academia.

Faster Knowledge Transfer

Open access accelerates the circulation of findings, speeds up the transfer of knowledge from teaching to practice, and quickens the rate at which studies can be implemented [5]. This acceleration is giving a boost to creativity and data-based decision-making across sectors. With research results being available directly, researchers are able to work on top of other research more rapidly and do not redo what has been done before, leading to less duplication of effort and faster allocation of resources in the research community. Such efficiency is critically important in responding to urgent global challenges that demand coordinated scientific action [1,4].

Improved Peer Review and Reproducibility

Several open-access journals follow the transparent peer review approach, which ensures quality control and an educative role for researchers. This openness inspires trust in published results and helps young scientists grasp the norms of scientific writing. Open access also promotes reproducible research behaviour by ensuring that entire research outputs can be accessed and reviewed to support validation and replication. Open access to articles, data, and supplemental materials enables the scientific community to verify findings and build upon them.

Knowledge Democratization

Open access eliminates the cost barriers of traditional materials, such as textbooks, which often prevent students from learning and participating in career activities [1,6]. High-quality research is available to readers across the world at no cost [2]. This wide availability ensures diversity and equal opportunity. This democratization of methods and models goes beyond the academy to promote healthy public debate and sound public deliberation. Under open access, research results can play a key role in informed decision-making in all areas of society and can easily meet the needs of lifelong learning among active citizens.
